Member of Distinction 2019
Kelly Smith – Chief Building Official, City of Orillia
Kelly Smith has been the Chief Building Official for the City of Orillia for nearly two decades, being appointed
as Chief in 2003. Kelly is a certified Building Code Official and is responsible for reviewing and enforcing
compliance with the Ontario Building Code. Kelly’s primary roles are the issuing of building permits and inspecting buildings that are under construction.
Currently, Kelly is facilitating a Parks, Recreation and Culture course, and supported by the ODCA, called Introduction to Construction. Class age ranges from 7 – 12 years olds and aims to introduce students to various aspects of the construction industry. One of the goals of the Association is to build the interest of more youth towards the trades. Kelly is doing a fantastic job at coordinating this course, gathering materials and arranging different members to come and teach the students about different aspects of the construction.
As such, the ODCA (Orillia and District Construction Association) is proud to announce that
Kelly Smith has been awarded the 2019 Distinction Award!
