The Orillia District Construction Association (ODCA) recently donated $500 to Orillia Community Gardens for a new garden shed which will be constructed at Regent Park United Church.

“The Orillia District Construction Association felt this was a great building project to support, since the community gardens bring healthy food to so many in the community,” said ODCA President, Ken Johnston. “Our board members were able to visit the community gardens at Regent United and were really impressed with size and organization of the gardens, not to mention the volunteers that make the gardens successful.”

The $500 donation will be put towards the construction of a new garden shed on the property which will house tools the group has compiled over the duration of the initiative.

“We’ve just sent our first harvest to the food bank,” said Andy Robbins of Orillia Community Gardens. “This included over 15 pounds of lettuce and spinach, and we’re harvesting even more today.”

Several volunteers were on hand at the gardens Wednesday to take part in the cheque presentation.

“The Orillia District Construction Association is proud to support this community initiative, and we encourage others to do the same,” said Johnston.

Individuals or businesses who wish to support the growth of the Orillia Community Gardens are asked to contact Andy Robbins at 705-345-9165.
